About The Phil

The Winnipeg Philharmonic Choir (the "Phil"), the oldest choir of its kind in western Canada, has been entertaining Winnipeg audiences with beautiful music since 1922. The Phil’s repertoire covers a broad range of secular and religious music including oratorios, masses, cantatas, songs and choral symphonies.

The Phil self-produces a season of three primary concerts, supplemented by various private, public and benefit performances. Often joining forces with other groups such as the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra and the Winnipeg Singers, the Phil recently appeared with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The Phil has performed in Toronto and in New York City at Carnegie Hall. In November of 2009 the choir collaborated with All the King's Men and members of the WSO to present the Manitoba premiere of Bruckner’s Requiem.

The Phil prides itself on premiering many original works, and has also commissioned works by Manitoba composers. Under the direction of Artistic Director Yuri Klaz, the Phil continues to captivate audiences with its choral presentations.
